It used to be that knowing a good joke or one-liner was the way of giving the gift of laughter. It still is. But, for those of us who have a hard time remembering jokes or coming up with our own, we have turned to wearing funny t-shirts in order to deliver this gift.

Now, the gift of laughter has many faces. The gift can be sharing a joke with another human being or it can be enjoyed solely by the wearer of the funny t-shirt. For instance, many funny t-shirt websites now have a line of offensive or rude t-shirts that are meant to shock the other party who reads them. The one who purchases and wears this funny t-shirt enjoys the reaction of others.

Funny t-shirts can also make social or political statements as well. Two terms of the current President have spawned all sorts of hilarity at his expense. Of course, many others would argue that he’s brought all this ridicule upon himself. No matter, funny t-shirts are about delivering a message and about personal identity.

When one wears a funny t-shirt they are stating, “This is who I am and this is what I believe”. Funny t-shirts are also a good way to break the ice in a social situation. Men and women no longer have to struggle with cheesy pick-up lines as they can simply state their interests on a funny tee. For instance, a t-shirt that reads, “Quick! I need a naked nurse” or “I’m in touch with my horniness emotion” may just tell the opposite sex of your interests.

Funny t-shirts have also turned vintage. Graphics of those from yesteryear spouting puns, irony and dirty slogans have been popular of late. Humorous graphics from the 1920’s to the 1970’s are generally used to deliver the funny messages.

Some funny t-shirts are all about the message and contain no funny graphics whatsoever. The concept and joke or pun is the key to the humor in these t-shirt designs. These designs may include some minimal design work like fun with fonts, drop shadows, colors and outlines, but verbal message is the most important element in these types of funny tees.

All-in-all, funny t-shirts are a great way to get the message of laughter out. Share a joke with a family member, friend or coworker today just by dropping a funny tee on yourself. It’s a lot more fun than wearing a “kick me” sign on your back and generally no animal testing is done when producing the tees.

How to be Romantic

What is it exactly that makes a woman see a man as romantic? Most of the time it's the little things that women notice. A glance, a quick touch or brush across her back. Sure, flowers are nice, but haven't they almost become a cliché. That's not to say women don't like flowers because they do, but if that's all you've got then it will only go so far. You have to mix it up, change your style and use your imagination to create romantic moments.

The key factor in creating romantic moments is to put the lady’s likes ahead of your own.

Creating romantic moments is so easy it’s a wonder every man in the world doesn’t “get” this. All you have to do is think of an activity built around something she likes to do. Does she like shopping (not something men even like to think about much less do), fine dining, walks on a beach, watching movies and the list goes on.

It's all about doing something she likes with her. What will make such activities seem even more romantic to her is if you choose to do something she likes to do with her when a ball game is on TV that you could be watching with your buddies. She will feel chosen…and that, sir, is VERY romantic indeed.

It doesn’t matter which activity to choose to participate in with the woman that you want to think of you as romantic. The trick is for you to be totally involved mentally in the activity and not staring off into space or obviously just wishing it were over so you could go do what you really want to do. Remember this is you trying to be romantic so concentrate on the project at hand.

It really is so very easy to create romantic moments. With only a little thinking and planning, romantic moments can happen every day and at the most unexpected moments. Being romantic is a win/win situation. There is no reason not to make romantic moments happen at every opportunity.

Children's Piano Hand Position

If you're a piano teacher trying to get a child's hand to assume the classic "flat" position, you'll have noticed by now that most children have some difficulty achieving that "correct" position.

In fact, children's hands adopt a variety of strange positions when put on the piano, almost all of them painfully awkward and comic.

I've learned this because I do not teach hand position at first, and thus have had an opportunity to witness perhaps every variation in hand position that kids can naturally come up with.

There is the classic position I call the "bug crusher," in which the two thumbs play a key each, but the rest of the hand droops below the plane of the keys.

Or the most popular and natural position, which I call the "pointer," in which the two index fingers are poised, at the ready, in position to take a jab at the keys from various angles.

Strangely enough, the piano keyboard was designed with human hand in mind, perhaps more than any device ever created by the mind of man, except perhaps the glove.

You can achieve a perfect hand position with any child just by playing the following game I call "Hobbita-Jobbita."

Sit or stand and have the child shake their hands vigorously, loose at the wrists, just letting the hand fly around free.

I like to have them say, "Hobbita-Jobbita" while we do it, a nonsensical sound which seems to go with the rather silly act of shaking your hands at arms length.

In the middle of shaking, stop suddenly, and very gently grab the child's wrist and say, "Look!" You will see for a split second the human hand in absolute relaxation, and what you are trying to do is to get the child to observe what their hand looks like as a result of this silly game.

Remember, what's important is that the child observe their hand in that perfect relaxed position, even if only for a second. Get them to acknowledge it.

Suddenly, something will happen: the child will tense their hand, and the fingers, limp a moment ago, are now as stiff as breadsticks.

In fact, we play the game several times, and I try to get them to leave their fingers like "wet noodles," rather than like "breadsticks."

I'll tell you right now that kids love to stiffen their hands into "breadsticks," just to see the piano teacher cringe. Laugh. It's a game.

The second stage of the game is this: we play "Hobbita-Jobbita," until they are seriously able to keep their fingers limp.

Then, and this is the crucial step, guide their loose hand to the piano keyboard, quickly, before it loses the relaxed shape, and put it in C position (C position is where the right hand thumb is on Middle C.)

It will take hundreds of times, perhaps, of playing this game for most children to get the idea, and they will joke and suddenly tense their hands many, many times, just to be impish. Laugh. It's a game.

But eventually, happily as well, children will find a relaxed hand position by themselves using this method, and here is the magical part: every child I have taught this game plays habitually and without reminding in a perfect hand position, because they have been led, through games, to see that it is the best position.

Be warned, your patience will be tried, but you will be rewarded with that perfect hand position that many teachers slave to foster in their students. In fact, many teachers alienate the student on this issue alone, with constant reminders and browbeating.

There's not a problem in beginning piano that can't be solved with a creative piano game.

Get Your Holidaying Baby to Sleep

So you have decided you and the family need a holiday. But can you really have a relaxing holiday with baby on board?

Yes, you can with a few precautions and a little extra planning. Babies are creatures of habit so expecting them to cope with new routines, time zones, new faces, places etc is asking a little bit much. Try to keep to baby's routine as much as possible. Bring his favourite food with you at least for the first couple of days. For example unless you are blissfully breastfeeding, whilst you may be able to get your baby's favourite brand of baby formula, the local water may make it taste different. It might be an idea to bring a few bottles of made up formula with you. Use the familiar taste to mix with the unfamiliar until gradually baby acclimatises to the new taste.

If you are bringing a travel cot with you, you might want to try baby sleeping in the cot for a couple of nights prior to leaving home. If you are going to use the hotels facilities, then bring a couple of baby's familiar blankets or favourite cuddly toy with you.
